Choosing a Pasture Meter is straight forward as the main elements of all the plate meters are identical but it’s only the counters that differ. All Jenquip plate meters are high quality, accurate, simple to use and reliable rising pasture meters for measuring grass covers. Jenquip does not recommend one pasture meter over the other and in the end, it comes down to personal preference, budget and getting the right one for your requirements.

Which rising pasture meter to choose?

The Jenquip Manual Folding Plate Meter is the original plate meter which all electronic models have been based on. It is low cost and works well, but does require meter readings to be converted into pasture cover values. For each paddock measured, counter readings have to be written down in a notebook and then using the equation converted to Kg DM / HA. This is usually done when back in the farm office but in some instances clients use a table which is either written on the plate or on a laminated card.

The EC09 is a popular entry level Plate Meter and has been in the market for over 28 years. All later modles have been based on the EC09 technology 

The Electronic range of Plate Meters, EC09, EC10 (USB) and EC20 (Bluetooth) are a easier to use, than a Manual Plate Meter.

There is an instant readout on the face of the plate meter in the case of the EC09 and EC10. The EC20 communicates to an App on your phone and is also great for training users to assess pasture cover ‘by eye’. All the calculations are done for you and the EC10 and EC20 also able to store the data.

There are 3 handle options, Folding Ball, Non Folding Ball and T Handle. Also Plastic or Aluminium Plates. 

Also available are 400mm Grooved rods which enables plate meters to be used to measure longer tropical grass species
